A few days later, on June 8, a Reddit user posted the first known meme based on the image to the gaming subreddit, where it earned over 1,500 upvotes. On June 10, another user shared a different version of the meme, created by an unknown author, to the HistoryMemes subreddit, where it received more than 7,200 upvotes in just three days.

On May 31, 2019, the monster film Godzilla: King of the Monsters was released in the United States. A few days later, on June 2, artist Michael J. Larson shared a humorous fan art of the creature King Ghidorah titled "King Ghidorah in a Nutshell" on his DeviantArt profile and social media accounts. The post quickly gained attention on Twitter, receiving over 4,300 retweets and 9,600 likes within two weeks.
